Packer News 9/2/10 – 9/9/10
Al: The big news this week, of course, were the cuts made to bring the Packers roster down to 53. Spencer Havner and Will Blackmon were the biggest names let go, which elicited a range of emotions form Packers fans. Many had trouble understanding the Havner move, but not this packer fan. I have said all along the Packers would not risk losing Quarless and Crabtree. It was going to be either Lee or Havner, and the Packers just had more faith in Lee to be a starter if something were to happen to Jermichael Finley. Read more... Every Green Bay Packers fan worth his/her salt knows St. Vince. Wearing his holy garb, he can be seen in his low-level end-zone seats, along with his cheese-bra wearing wife, “Cheese Louise.” St. Vince has become synonymous with Lambeau Field and is almost as a big a celebrity in Green Bay as the players are.
Before every home game, he is mobbed by Packer fans wanting to take pictures, get autographs and kiss his Super-Bowl ring. St. Vince truly shows the patience of a saint, obliging every request, and blessing fans with his cheerful personality. I am always fascinated by people who take their Packers fandom to a “higher” level, so I just had to get to know a little about this “Paragon of Packers Piety:”
When did you first become a Packers fans and what is the background story behind it? Also, what are your earliest memories of the Packers? Read more... (2082 words + 8 images, estimated 8:20 mins reading time)

According to Pete Dougherty of Packernews.com, the Green Bay Packers today have signed the following players to the practice squad:
Green Bay Packers Practice Squad:
The Packer sooooooo need a defensive lineman as emergency insurance, yet Kareem Copeland of PackersNews.com told me on twitter that he asked Thompson about this and he seemed unconcerned? Huh? Wynn, Toribio and Talley all gone and you’re not concerned about what happens if one of the 6 DL on the roster gets injured and can’t play?
Also, how ironic is it that after two years on the #Packers roster, Giacomini easily makes it onto the practice squad?
Simpkins really made an impression in the Chiefs game. While he was far from perfect, his effort was outstanding, unlike Obiozor, who I thought looked like he didn’t care. Well, Simpkins gets to stick around. Read more... (354 words + 5 images, estimated 1:25 mins reading time)
The Green Bay Packers have reduced their roster to the League-required 53 man limit. As there are every year, there were a few surprises. No longer on the Packers 53-man roster today are:
- OL Allen Barbre
- DT Anthony Toribio
- DE Ron Talley
- RB Kregg Lumpkin
- OLB Cyril Obiozor
- S / RET Will Blackmon
- WR / RET Jason Chery
- WR Charles Dillon
- TE Spencer Havner
- OL Evan Dietrich-Smith
- LB Alex Joseph
- LB Robert Francois
- DE Jarius Wynn
- OT Chris Campbell
- OT Breno Giacomini
- LB Maurice Simpkins
- WR Chastin West
- WR Patrick Williams
- S Anthony Levine
- CB D.J. Clark
- P Chris Bryan
- QB Graham Harrell
Let’s take a quick look at some of these moves. Read more... (932 words + 5 images, estimated 3:44 mins reading time)

Final Green Bay Packers roster predictions for 2010. Now that the Green Bay Packers have completed the preseason, here is my best guess at predicting the 53-man roster they will enter the regular season with. Anything you see in RED are additions and/or changes from my preliminary predictions before the Chiefs game.
Quarterbacks – 2
Aaron Rodgers yes
Matt Flynn yes
Graham Harrell cut – PS (will probably be claimed)
The only question here is, will Harrell last on the practice squad? Having had Brian Brohm picked up off their practice squad last season, Harrell is another QB with a good college football resume. It’s very possible another team would take a chance on him. Would the Packers be tempted to do what most NFL teams do and keep 3 QBs on their roster? I’ll vote no.
Running Backs – 5
Ryan Grant yes
Brandon Jackson yes Read more... (1929 words + 6 images, estimated 7:43 mins reading time)

Packer News 8/27/10 – 9/1/10
Al: Charles Woodson had a few choice words about the Packers defense this week. When asked by Bill Huber of Packer Report if the defense was better than what they’ve shown this preseason, Woodson replied: I think we’re as good as what we’ve shown, and I don’t think it’s all that great.” Woodson went on to discuss the need for players to step up and help out the offense. This was obviously a call to arms by the the Packer’s defensive leader.
Holly: One Packers player that answered a call to arms was Daryn Colledge. The Packers somewhat-maligned lineman beat back all preseason challengers to his starting left guard spot. According to Colledge, he reported to training camp in the best shape of his life and ready to go to war with all comers. That he did and Colledge held onto his starting spot – at least for right now. Read more... (754 words + 6 images, estimated 3:01 mins reading time)
